Directions

The Volakas is built on the western slopes of Baldy at an altitude of 830 meters, and its residents employed in nearby quarries, but are engaged in logging. Along with Granite is the closest village to the ski resort so the weekends are crowded by visitors filled the newly-built houses of the village, but the hungry skiers, who spins the mountain and stop at restaurants to sample local specialties and the famous hot dogs in the village.

Walking the streets you will find several neighborhoods with older homes. In the square stands the church of Prophet Elias, built in 1841, with the stone bell tower. Next to it is the bust of Volakioti Makedonomahou Kouptsiou Armen, who was hanged in Liberty Square in Drama on 14 September 1905.

A rich cultural heritage of the village and if you come here to the Holy Spirit will experience a unique atmosphere.  On the day of the celebration, the faithful go up in the chapel of Baldy on decorated horses.  After the doxology following celebration with dances, songs and traditional "kourbani" (boiled lamb with herbs). The same afternoon races are in the village square.

The Volakas is ideal for walkers, and from there passes the international path E6.
